Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of the organisation’s databases. The successful candidate will ensure data is stored efficiently, remains accessible to authorised users, and is protected against data loss and security breaches in compliance with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act requirements.
Key Responsibilities
System Maintenance
Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade database management systems such as SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
Performance Monitoring
Monitor database performance, optimise queries, manage indexing, and ensure fast response times for end-users.
Security & Compliance
Manage user access controls, apply security patches, conduct audits, and maintain compliance with data protection regulations.
Backup & Recovery
Develop, implement, and regularly test backup and disaster recovery strategies to minimise downtime and data loss.
Capacity Planning
Monitor database growth, storage requirements, and system performance to ensure scalability.
Collaboration
Work closely with developers, system administrators, and project managers to design database schemas and support technical delivery.
Essential Requirements
Experience
Minimum of 3+ years’ proven experience as a Database Administrator.
Technical Skills
Advanced knowledge of SQL and hands-on experience with database management tools.
Security Knowledge
Strong understanding of UK data protection legislation and information security best practices.
Skills
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud
- Scripting and automation experience (Python, PowerShell, Unix shell)
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate)
